Meeting Point & Parking

Start your 2026 adventure correctly.

Most Katla Ice Cave tours depart from the coastal town of **Vík í Mýrdal**. Because the weather can be unpredictable and the town is small, knowing exactly where to park and meet your guide is essential.

The Primary Hub: Vík í Mýrdal

GPS Coordinates: 63.4194° N, 19.0061° W

Most operators (including Arctic Adventures and Katlatrack) meet at the **Soup Company/Vík Wool** building or the nearby **OB Gas Station** parking lot.

Parking Info

Parking in Vík is currently **Free** at the main tour meeting points. Look for the designated "Ice Cave Tour Meeting Point" signs. Do not park in residential areas or block gas station pumps.

Check-In Time

You MUST arrive at the meeting point at least **20 minutes before** your scheduled departure. The Super Jeeps operate on a strict schedule and will not wait for late arrivals.

What to Look For

Your guide will be looking for you in a **large-wheeled Super Jeep** (usually with 44-inch or 46-inch tires). These vehicles are impossible to miss. Your tour operator's logo will be clearly displayed on the door.

Pro Tip: The "Vík Base" Strategy

If you are driving from Reykjavík, allow at least **3 hours** to reach Vík, even though Google Maps says 2.5 hours. Traffic and weather on the South Coast are unpredictable. Many visitors find it much less stressful to stay in Vík the night before their tour.
